i noticed that a photo of kubo sensei still hasn't been uploaded on his article.

Clean up

The biography can use some cleaning up. The grammar is poor and there are some redundant wording. "Obihito"

Upon looking on Amazon, it seems, for many of the original Japanese copies of the Bleach volumes, Kubo is listed as "Obihito Kubo" rather than his usual pen name "Tite"/"Taito". The proper links can be found through Special:BookSources/4088732138 (the number is the ISBN of the original Japanese Bleach Volume 1). Scratch this, it's Amazon being stupid. The Kanji in his pen name can also be read as "Obihito" (帯人). Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 16:43, 12 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Akira Toriyama's letter of encouragement

This topic was discussed over 15 years ago, but perhaps it should be taken up again. The Weekly Shonen Jump Exhibition Vol. 3: The 2000s catalog ([1]) includes an interview (in English) with Kubo where he talks about the origins of Bleach (I found photos of the interview on X, but I don't know if it would be okay to post them here). In the interview, it is stated that his editor told him that he "got the lead story slot for Akamaru Jump", so Kubo made a prototype called Snipe. Long story short, Kubo made several changes to the initial designs and weapons as he was drawing the storyboards, and that's also where he came up with the idea of introducing shinigamis, eventually making the characters similar to those of Bleach, and changed the title from Snipe to Bleach ("a pretty last-minute change"). The one-shot took the number one place in Akamaru Jump and was selected for serialization. This contradicts the statement of Los Angeles Times, which claimed that "Shonen Jump initially turned down "Bleach"", and that the editors "soon realized their mistake and published the first installments of "Bleach"". The interview tells how the editors were very strict with him, but it is never stated that they rejected anything. On the other hand, Akira Toriyama is a very important name (it should have been especially important to a newcomer like Kubo at the time), so I find it curious that at no point in the interview is there any mention of a letter from him. It is known that Kubo is influenced by Toriyama, but if the story about the letter is true, I imagine that he would have alluded the event at some point, like in his message when Toriyama died, or at least there should be sources in Japanese referring to the story, but I couldn't find anything about it. Like the previous discussion regarding this, I also think that the LAT statement could be based on misinformation and made-up stories by fans, like this version of the article which contained a similar claim without any source. Due to the lack of corroborating evidence for this story, I think that it should be removed from the article. Xexerss (talk) 03:10, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
